John Christensen (1896-1940)
John Christensen was a celebrated figure in the Danish art scene. Born in 1986 in Copenhagen, Denmark and was not only an artist, but a barber. His painting's subject matter was often pulled from his barbershop in Kapelvej in the Nørrebro area of Copenhagen. Upon his death in 1940 celebrated critics compared Christensen to such greats as van Gogh, Chagall and Rousseau.
Christensen's work is in the collection of Statens Museum for Kunst, The Workers’ Museum, Randers Kunstmuseum, among others.
Christensen died of cancer in 1940.
